I call these ink line drawings, my adaptation of selected tenants of philosophy and technique of the 5000-year old evolution of Chinese Ink Painting. I generally do a grouping of 6 or 8 drawings at one sitting—rarely over more than an hour. Do 4 or 5 sessions a year normally. The ticket is not to think at all when my hand moving ink markers on slick paper. This state which I experience with other mediums as well, is what I call being on automatic—what athletes often refer to as being in the zone.
On my Cartoons—keeping a sense of humor, is everything it is cracked up to be.
My Mr. Potato Head series stems from my enjoyment of this toy as child- back when M.P. H. used real potatoes. It was what I call my suburban voodoo doll, it was inspiration that turned weekly five-pound bag of potatoes into this mini Michelangelo shipment of Carrara Marbles. It is a great toy in it’s most recent evolution, produced by a great toy maker Hasbro.
